One of the few surviving members of 19th Battalion Sussex Home Guard.

I joined the Irish Guards in 1944 and was "On Active Service" in Germany, Egypt, and Palestine, from where I was de-mobilised in 1948 due to the foundation of the new State of Israel

Been there, done that, got the Certificate

Awarded for my
"Services rendered to the Home Guard"

L.D.V. Private Graham White, 17 years old.
Seen here, my brother in Local Defence Volunteer uniform, later to become The Home Guard, with his friend Leslie Oliver (left). They both joined the Grenadier Guards at 18. Graham, as a member of a Churchill Tank crew, fought with the Guards Armoured Division from Normandy to Luneberg Heath, while his friend's Battalion was sent to serve elsewhere. "Les" was killed during the fighting in Italy.
