A new feature to encourage my visitors to submit suitable anecdotes,
and pictures, of Battle in the first half of the 20th Century.

                                                Battle Army Cadets Football Team

Submitted by Bob Champion, who appears (standing) in the middle of the photograph which he believes was taken in 1945. It is of particular interest to me as all the players were school friends and neighbours of mine when I was living at Senlac Gardens in Battle.

Bob has supplied the line-up details as follows:

Back Row, standing, L to R:   John Powell - John Champion - Alan "Borneo" Paine -
Bob Champion - "Jock" Purvis - Freddie Fletcher - and Des Lade

Front Row, kneeling, L to R:   Charlie Bowers - Stan Elliott - Bobbie Noakes -
Bob "Boner" Soan - and Jack "Wooster" Croft

Thankyou Bob, for lending me the photograph, and for the idea of launching this new feature, which I hope will be appreciated by my regular ex-patriot visitors from all over the world, including  several of the United States,  Canada, Japan, Russia and many European countries.

If you are a "Battle Boy" of a certain age, you will also remember "Jock" Purvis as the barber on the corner of Mount Street.  ( Anything for the week-end Sir ? )
